Chinese manuacturers are producing increasingly powerful electric supercars, but Lamborghini says they are not concerned. CEO Stephan Winkelmann has argued that horsepower figures and rapid acceleration and only part of what makes a supercar desirable.
"WE DON'T SEE THIS AS A THREAT" Brands such as Denza and Yangwang are entering the high-performance market with electric cars capable of challenging European supercars on paper. Winkelmann stated that Lamborghini "are not doing electric cars for a reason", and that Chinese cars cannot compete with "the performance of our cars, the sound and the emotion."
BETTING ON HYBRID TECHNOLOGY He stated that Lamborghini is "feeling very well", about the decision to delay the first fully electric Lamborghini after customer feedback. Lamborghini say they will only launch an electric car if it is "a masterpiece in terms of performance." Instead, the Italian marque has opted to remain the hybrid technology currently in use on all of its vehicles for as long as possible.
Before ending his remarks, the CEO concluded that although Chinese supercar brands are not currently a threat to Lamborghini: "never say never."
