THE TESLA ROADSTER IS FINALLY COMING BACK

Tesla's long-awaited Roadster is set to return to the spotlight on 1st October 2026, when Elon Musk says the latest version will be unveiled. The first Roadster arrived in 2006, the second-generation in 2017, and the third generation now seems to be arriving in 2026.

Despite the decades long wait, Tesla is still advertising some huge numbers. The company currently claims a 0-60mph time of just 1.9 seconds, similar to a Rimac Nevera or Koenigsegg Gemera. It is expected to have a 620-mile range, making it one of the most enduring electric cars in the world. The supercar will have four seats and feature a removable glass roof that can be stored in the boot.

WHAT WE KNOW When the Roadster prototype was unveiled in 2017, Tesla said it would use three electric motors — one at the front and two at the rear — alongside a massive 200kWh battery pack. It also claimed 0–100mph in 4.2 seconds and an 8.9-second quarter mile. Those details date from the original prototype, however, and Tesla has not yet confirmed that the final 2026 version will use exactly the same hardware.

WORTH THE WAIT? The performance-car world has changed considerably since 2017, with a growing number of extremely fast electric cars now on sale. That puts more pressure on Tesla to deliver something genuinely special.

The October unveiling should finally reveal how much the Roadster has changed — and whether Tesla can turn its eye-catching performance claims into a production car.
