- Las Vegas billionaire Steve Wynn once operated a Ferrari dealership inside his luxury hotel
- The controversial sale of his LaFerrari reportedly caused a dispute with Ferrari
- In 2015, the dealership closed, raising questions about what really happened
In 2005, Las Vegas billionaire Steve Wynn opened a Ferrari and Maserati dealership inside his luxurious Wynn Las Vegas resort. Operated in partnership with Penske Automotive Group, the showroom became a tourist attraction, with visitors even paying $10 to admire the exotic cars on display. For ten years, it was one of the world's most unusual Ferrari dealerships.
THE LAFERRARI CONTROVERSY In 2013, Ferrari introduced the LaFerrari, a limited-production hybrid hypercar producing 963 metric horsepower, with just 499 coupés originally planned. Wynn was among the exclusive group of customers selected to purchase one. However, according to automotive detailer Rich Light, Wynn disliked the car and sold it for approximately $3.5 million, reportedly before an agreed resale restriction had expired.

AN EXPENSIVE DISAGREEMENT Light later claimed that Ferrari representatives confronted Wynn about the sale, resulting in a heated disagreement. Wynn allegedly ordered them off his property, creating tensions between the billionaire and the Italian manufacturer. In October 2015, Penske Wynn Ferrari closed after its lease was not renewed.
Although rumours linked the closure to the LaFerrari dispute, the official explanation was simply that the business partners had mutually decided not to renew the agreement.
THE LEGACY Whether the LaFerrari controversy truly caused the dealership's closure remains unconfirmed. Nevertheless, the story has become a fascinating piece of Ferrari folklore, highlighting the tension between wealthy collectors and a manufacturer determined to maintain control over its most exclusive cars.
Today, a Ferrari dealership in Las Vegas is operated by a different company at a different location in the city.
