F40

1987-1992

The F40 was built to celebrate Ferrari's 40th anniversary and was the ginal road car launched during Enzo Ferrari's lifetime. Its lightweight construction, twin-turbocharged V8 and stripped-back approach made it one of the world's most iconic cars, and it became the first road car officially capable of exceeding 200mph.

Variant

F40 Competizione

The F40 Competizione is essentially the customer continuation of the F40 LM racing project. The first two cars carried the LM name, but Ferrari considered "Le Mans" too restrictive for cars intended for other competitions, so subsequent examples became Competizione; mechanically the two variants are similar, although not identical.

F40 GT

The F40 GT was a less extreme racing alternative to the F40 LM, developed by Michelotto primarily for privateers in the Italian GT Championship. Existing F40s were converted with a lighter 1050kg body, more powerful engine, racing suspension, strong brakes and other competition equipment.

Variant

F40 GTE

The F40 GTE was the final and most developed racing evolution of the F40, created by Michelotto for international GT1 competition in the BPR Global GT Series and at Le Mans. It evolved the earlier LM concept with the enlarged 3.5L engine, a sequental gearbox and increasingly extreme aerodynamics, making it the ultimate competion-spec evolution of the F40.
