The 458 replaced the F430 and became Ferrari's new-generation mid-engined V8 supercar, combing a 9000rpm naturally-aspirated engine with seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox and advanced F1-derived electronics. It became the foundation for the wider 458 family, and was ultimately succeeded by the turbocharged 488. The original 458 was offered as either a coupé - the Italia - or a convertible - the Spider.
