A Bugatti Tourbillon prototype has been rear-ended by a Volkswagen during road testing in Spain's Sierra Nevada. Video of the incident shows traffic slowing ahead of the Bugatti. The Tourbillon brakes, but the Volkswagen following behind appears unable to stop before hitting its rear.
AN EXPENSIVE MISTAKE The crash happened while Bugatti was continuing development of its new flagship supercar on public roads. There is no confirmed damage assessment and it is unclear whether the prototype sufferred anything beyond external damage. The incident is an unusual sight: one of the world's most expensive supercars involved in a collision with a relatively normal car. It looks like it's going to be an expensive insurance claim...
Bugatti plan to make just 250 examples off the Tourbillon with each starting at over $4 million. Each will have an 8.3L naturally-aspirated quad-turbocharged V16 and 3 electric motors, developing 1800hp. It is expected to have a top speed of 276mph (445km/h) and launch from 0-62mph (0-100km/h) in 2.0 seconds.
