The original Alfa Romeo 33 Stradale was introduced in 1967 and developed from the Tipo 33 racing car. Designed by Franco Scaglione, its low, curved body and distinctive doors helped make it one of the most recognisable Italian sports cars of its era.

A RACING CAR FOR THE ROAD The original Alfa Romeo 33 Stradale was introduced in 1967 and developed from the Tipo 33 racing car. Designed by Franco Scaglione, it was created to bring the excitement and engineering of Alfa Romeo’s motorsport programme onto public roads. Its extremely low stance, flowing curves and distinctive upward-opening doors gave it a dramatic appearance, while its lightweight construction and racing-derived mechanicals ensured it had the performance to match. Today, it remains one of Alfa Romeo’s most celebrated and recognisable designs.

Behind the driver was a 2.0-litre V8 producing around 230hp. That might sound modest today, but the lightweight 33 Stradale could reach 62mph in roughly 5.5 seconds and exceed 160mph.

THE 33 RETURNS In 2023, Alfa Romeo revealed a modern interpretation of the 33 Stradale, with production limited to 33 cars.

Its styling takes inspiration from the original while using modern supercar technology. The combustion-powered version features a 3.0-litre twin-turbo V6 producing more than 620hp, allowing it to reach 62mph in under three seconds and a top speed of 207mph.

Despite the huge difference in performance, the philosophy remains much the same. Both generations combine dramatic Italian design, exclusivity and serious performance, making the 33 Stradale one of the most distinctive names in Alfa Romeo’s history.
